This support, like the others on his tomb, shows a kneeling boy carrying a section of the sarcophagus on his shoulders carved into white marble. Behind the boy is a design of scrollwork, which separated the two images on the face of the support. This scroll work has Islamic elements and a similar design can be seen on the painted ceiling of the Cappella Palatina. The use of human figures as a stylistic element harkens back to the designs on Roman tombstones, and a similar design can be seen can be seen on the tomb of St. Lazarus in the cathedral of St. Lazare in Autun. The meaning of these figures is linked to Christian tradition, and would serve as a symbol connecting Roger II and Jesus Christ when he was resurrected.<br \/>\nModern Province: (PA) Palermo<br \/>\nModern Town: Palermo<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Support on the Sarcophagus of King Roger II<\/p>\n"},"alt_text":"","media_type":"image","mime_type":"image\/jpeg","media_details":{"width":450,"height":600,"file":"2013\/04\/P8070039.jpg","sizes":{"thumbnail":{"file":"P8070039-150x150.jpg","width":150,"height":150,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-150x150.jpg"},"medium":{"file":"P8070039-225x300.jpg","width":225,"height":300,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-225x300.jpg"},"slider-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-450x395.jpg","width":450,"height":395,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-450x395.jpg"},"blog-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-450x300.jpg","width":450,"height":300,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-450x300.jpg"},"teaser-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-332x205.jpg","width":332,"height":205,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-332x205.jpg"},"gallery-1-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-432x432.jpg","width":432,"height":432,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-432x432.jpg"},"gallery-2-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-268x268.jpg","width":268,"height":268,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-268x268.jpg"},"gallery-3-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-268x164.jpg","width":268,"height":164,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-268x164.jpg"},"video-thumb":{"file":"P8070039-450x393.jpg","width":450,"height":393,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039-450x393.jpg"},"full":{"file":"P8070039.jpg","width":450,"height":600,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039.jpg"}},"image_meta":{"aperture":4,"credit":"","camera":"C5060WZ","caption":"","created_timestamp":1218108799,"copyright":"","focal_length":"15.4","iso":"100","shutter_speed":"0.0166666666667","title":"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA"}},"post":632,"source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P8070039.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/938"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/attachment"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=938"}]}}
