We can clearly see the porphyry capitals up near the top, which only adorned the pillars of Henry VI and Frederick II in the Norman tombs at the Cathedral of Palermo. The design of these capitals is similar to the Coptic designs that could be found further East among the Byzantine Empire. Subtle elements like these show the diversity of cultures that coexisted in Sicily where combinations of Byzantine and Islamic art were not unusual. The end of the sarcophagus is decorated with a leaf inside of a door knocker and the tympanum is decorated with a carved flower. The image also shows an inscription in Latin close to the floor which tells the reader who resides in the tomb, though this looks to have been added at a later time.<br \/>\nModern Province: (PA) Palermo<br \/>\nModern Town: Palermo<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>Tomb of the Emperor Henry VI and Canopy<\/p>\n"},"alt_text":"","media_type":"image","mime_type":"image\/jpeg","media_details":{"width":450,"height":600,"file":"2013\/04\/P7080173.jpg","sizes":{"thumbnail":{"file":"P7080173-150x150.jpg","width":150,"height":150,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-150x150.jpg"},"medium":{"file":"P7080173-225x300.jpg","width":225,"height":300,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-225x300.jpg"},"slider-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-450x395.jpg","width":450,"height":395,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-450x395.jpg"},"blog-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-450x300.jpg","width":450,"height":300,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-450x300.jpg"},"teaser-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-332x205.jpg","width":332,"height":205,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-332x205.jpg"},"gallery-1-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-432x432.jpg","width":432,"height":432,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-432x432.jpg"},"gallery-2-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-268x268.jpg","width":268,"height":268,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-268x268.jpg"},"gallery-3-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-268x164.jpg","width":268,"height":164,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-268x164.jpg"},"video-thumb":{"file":"P7080173-450x393.jpg","width":450,"height":393,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173-450x393.jpg"},"full":{"file":"P7080173.jpg","width":450,"height":600,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173.jpg"}},"image_meta":{"aperture":2.8,"credit":"","camera":"C5060WZ","caption":"","created_timestamp":1120799824,"copyright":"","focal_length":"5.7","iso":"100","shutter_speed":"0.0333333333333","title":"Tomb of Emperor Henry VI in the Cathedral of Palermo"}},"post":632,"source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/P7080173.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/934"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/attachment"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=934"}]}}
