There is a difference of color between the stone on the ground and the stone used to build the archway and walls. The archway and walls were likely constructed from limestone, which was a common building material of the Normans because of its abundance in the mountains in the area. The pointed archway and crenellations are indicative of Islamic design. The Normans used Islamic design in their buildings in Southern Italy and Sicily.<br \/>\nModern Province: (EN) Enna<br \/>\nModern Town: Sperlinga<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>Archway with Crenellations<\/p>\n"},"alt_text":"","media_type":"image","mime_type":"image\/jpeg","media_details":{"width":375,"height":500,"file":"2013\/03\/Sperlinga21.jpg","sizes":{"thumbnail":{"file":"Sperlinga21-150x150.jpg","width":150,"height":150,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-150x150.jpg"},"medium":{"file":"Sperlinga21-225x300.jpg","width":225,"height":300,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-225x300.jpg"},"slider-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-375x395.jpg","width":375,"height":395,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-375x395.jpg"},"teaser-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-332x442.jpg","width":332,"height":442,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-332x442.jpg"},"gallery-1-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-375x432.jpg","width":375,"height":432,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-375x432.jpg"},"gallery-2-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-268x268.jpg","width":268,"height":268,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-268x268.jpg"},"gallery-3-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-268x164.jpg","width":268,"height":164,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-268x164.jpg"},"video-thumb":{"file":"Sperlinga21-375x393.jpg","width":375,"height":393,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21-375x393.jpg"},"full":{"file":"Sperlinga21.jpg","width":375,"height":500,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21.jpg"}},"image_meta":{"aperture":4,"credit":"","camera":"C5060WZ","caption":"","created_timestamp":false,"copyright":"","focal_length":"5.7","iso":"80","shutter_speed":"0.00625","title":"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA"}},"post":306,"source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Sperlinga21.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/738"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/attachment"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=738"}]}}
