His placement aids to the support and guidance offered as a Divine being.  The Angel Gabriel holds a great deal of importance to not only the Christians, but to Jews and Muslims alike.  His Divine being and presence is mentioned in the Old and New Testaments and additionally in the Q&#8217;uran.  Within the time frame of the mid-twelve century, the Angel Gabriel was a notable dignified being in all aspects of monotheistic religions.  Moreover, the high influx of Jews, Muslims, and Christians living in Monreale, aided to the respect and possible placement of Gabriel.  It is no mistake that he is represented in the top corner of the dome.
