According to the Bible, this would be the last time Jesus would share a table with all of his apostles, prior to being betrayed. Jesus is depicted here with the breaking of the bread and offering of wine to his followers.  This would form as the holy Eucharist for Christians.  Additionally, to the far right of the mosaic, we see Peter with his usual look of disgust as he is just hearing from Christ that someone sitting at this table will betray him.  A quick look at the other expressions around the table, display a look of worriment as they hurriedly turn to each other.  As the eye yields to the bottom of the frame, we see the mischievous and careless expression of Judas and the act he will soon partake in.  When visiting the Cathedral, this mosaic is placed adjacent to a depiction of Jesus&#8217; entry to Jerusalem.  What is interesting here, is the placement of these two very different themed mosaics, tells the story of entry to departure.  The Last Supper, as mentioned, is a notorious work of art that is most notably famous from Michelangelo&#8217;s depiction.  Although both pieces hold a similar message, they are starkly different in composition, form, and mannerism. This mosaic featured here is a prime example of Byzantine art.<br \/>\nModern Province: (PA) Palermo<br \/>\nModern Town: Greater Palermo<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>Last Supper<\/p>\n"},"alt_text":"","media_type":"image","mime_type":"image\/jpeg","media_details":{"width":500,"height":375,"file":"2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic.jpg","sizes":{"thumbnail":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-150x150.jpg","width":150,"height":150,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-150x150.jpg"},"medium":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-300x225.jpg","width":300,"height":225,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-300x225.jpg"},"teaser-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-332x249.jpg","width":332,"height":249,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-332x249.jpg"},"gallery-1-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-432x375.jpg","width":432,"height":375,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-432x375.jpg"},"gallery-2-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-268x268.jpg","width":268,"height":268,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-268x268.jpg"},"gallery-3-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-268x164.jpg","width":268,"height":164,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic-268x164.jpg"},"full":{"file":"MonrealeLastSupperMosaic.jpg","width":500,"height":375,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic.jpg"}},"image_meta":{"aperture":4.8,"credit":"","camera":"C5060WZ","caption":"","created_timestamp":1092720743,"copyright":"","focal_length":"22.9","iso":"216","shutter_speed":"2.5","title":"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA"}},"post":118,"source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeLastSupperMosaic.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/584"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/attachment"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=584"}]}}
