She looks directly over Christ and in some respects acts as a protectorate.  Just as the Angel Gabriel represents an act of symbolism to all monotheistic faiths, the Virgin Mother is also a prime example of shared commonalities.  She again, is mentioned in the Old and New Testaments and the Quran.  Her role is presented within the book of Genesis as the Mother to Christ.  In addition, she becomes pregnant by still being a virgin and is the first miracle in Christianity.  Muslims also hold a special role when it pertains to the Virgin Mother.  She is a role model whom teaches others how to live within a complex environment.  The dove seen flying towards her is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.  This depiction of the dove is very popular within Byzantine and Renaissance artwork and showcases the Divine spirit of God.<br \/>\nModern Province: (PA) Palermo<br \/>\nModern Town: Greater Palermo<\/p>\n"},"caption":{"rendered":"<p>Virgin Mary<\/p>\n"},"alt_text":"","media_type":"image","mime_type":"image\/jpeg","media_details":{"width":500,"height":375,"file":"2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic.jpg","sizes":{"thumbnail":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-150x150.jpg","width":150,"height":150,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-150x150.jpg"},"medium":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-300x225.jpg","width":300,"height":225,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-300x225.jpg"},"teaser-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-332x249.jpg","width":332,"height":249,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-332x249.jpg"},"gallery-1-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-432x375.jpg","width":432,"height":375,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-432x375.jpg"},"gallery-2-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-268x268.jpg","width":268,"height":268,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-268x268.jpg"},"gallery-3-thumb":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-268x164.jpg","width":268,"height":164,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic-268x164.jpg"},"full":{"file":"MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic.jpg","width":500,"height":375,"mime_type":"image\/jpeg","source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic.jpg"}},"image_meta":{"aperture":4.8,"credit":"","camera":"C5060WZ","caption":"","created_timestamp":1092718909,"copyright":"","focal_length":"22.9","iso":"199","shutter_speed":"2.5","title":"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA"}},"post":118,"source_url":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/MonrealeVirginMaryIncarnationMosaic.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/583"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/attachment"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.envisioningnormansicily.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=583"}]}}
